Wayne E. "Gene" Stevenson, 80 of Frontenac, KS, died at 5:52 am Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.

He was born January 20, 1927 in Frontenac, Kansas, the son of Lloyd and Blanche (Neely) Stevenson.

On May 9, 1959 he was united in marriage to Melba D. Elam in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on January 13, 1994.

Gene was a self employed concrete finisher and also worked for other local contractors.

He was a member of the VFW.

Survivors include a step-son, Dean Cares and his wife Betty of Parsons, KS; a brother, Ralph Stevenson and his wife Betty of Kennewick, WA; 6 Step-grandchildren, 14 step-great grandchildren 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harold Stevenson, a step-son Jerry Cares and step-grandson Rory Cares.

Graveside services will be December 24, 2007 at the Frontenac City Cemetery.
