FRIDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 1949 OBITUARY Mr. Arthur Daw JP who died at Edwardstown at the age of 90 years on the 27th August last was a son of the late John Wickham Daw and came to Kangaroo Island at the age of 9 months being born on the 13th August 1859. From an early age he assisted his father in sheep farming. He later acquired farming land at various parts of the Island and followed various occupations. In the early days he engaged in carting of sleepers and conducted a first class boarding house. Later he established a Land, Shipping and General Agency business which he developed into the largest of the kind on the Island. In 1932 he retired from the business. he always endeavored to forward the interests of the Island being a member of the district Council of Kingscote for 25 years and for many years the chairman. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1905. In 1891 he married the late Clara Emma Calnan youngest daughter of the late Charles Calnan who came to South Australia by the Sailing Ship Africaine in the year 1836. Two sons Messrs WE Daw and JH Daw and two grand-children survive him KI COURIER
