CADILLAC — Ashley Nicole Carlson, of Manton, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. She was only 23 years of age.

Ashley was born on December 14, 1994, in Traverse City, to parents Philip W. and Tara L. (Jones) Carlson. Ashley grew up and attended school in Manton, graduating as part of the class of 2013. During her time in school she pursued her passion for the culinary arts at the Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center and spent time on the basketball team. Ashley had begun a career working with Michigan Rubber in Cadillac and was a valued employee, who will be missed by many co-workers.

"Ash," as she was known to many, could often be found outdoors in warmer weather. She loved being in the woods or on the river, kayaking, fishing or just taking her dog, Izzy, for a swim. She was an admired and cherished friend to many. Ashley was always willing to help a friend in need and would do so with a smile. She enjoyed catching lunch with close friends and was the "rock" for those she cared about during their difficult times. Ashley will be deeply missed by so many and leaves many friends and family members to honor her memory.

Ashley is survived by her loving mother, Tara Carlson and James Thompson; her sister, Acacia Wright; stepsister, Vivian Thompson; stepbrother, Robert Thompson; her grandparents, Helen and Zeb Jones, and Marie Carlson; her beloved niece, Carly; her boyfriend, Sam Sutterfield; as well as numerous co-workers and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Philip W. Carlson; and grandfather, Wilfred "Pete" Carlson.

Memorial services remembering her will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul Tomlinson.
