Services for John Wayne Stiles, Sr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Hilliard Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at New Harmony Cemetery, Van Zandt County, with his brothers, Pastor Howard Stiles and Pastor Richard Stiles officiating. Great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Wayne was born February 6, 1941 in Lexington, Tennessee. He had been a resident of Ben Wheeler since 2006, formerly living in Chandler. He was a minister most of his life, starting when he was only 20 years old. He pastored numerous churches throughout the United States, with his last being Christ Gospel in Tyler. He also sold insurance for 25 years. Wayne enjoyed singing, music, studying the word of God, and yard work.
He passed away at the age of 80 on December 20, 2021 in Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson Stiles and Aubie Lee Garner Stiles Baker; two brothers, Sevier Stiles and Timothy Stiles; three sisters, Joan White, Naoma Stiles, and Linda Godfrey; sister-in-law, Gracie Stiles; and brother-in-law, Bill Epperson.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sharon Stiles of Ben Wheeler; three children, Teresa Middleton (Gary), Johnny Stiles, and Faith Bonin (Rick), all of Ben Wheeler; siblings, Howard Stiles, Delores Smith (Tommy), Glora Johnson, Mike Stiles (Karen), Richard Stiles (Debbie), and Judy Epperson; fourteen grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
