She was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Helen and John Miller. A graduate of Whitney Vocational High School in Toledo, she worked for Dave White Chevrolet.
In 1946 Joan married Robert Hamilton in a double wedding ceremony in which her sister Mary and J.L. Acheson were also married. In 1951 Bob and Joan moved to Riga where they raised four daughters. She was a partner with Bob in their business, Hamilton Signs.
A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed yard work, ballroom dancing with Bob, and tackling do-it-yourself projects. In the 1970's Joan loved being a model for Richland Furs. During the last months of her life, she thoroughly enjoyed living at Blissfield Place.
Joan is survived by her daughters - Margaret (Patrick) Stratton, Susan (Thomas) Chidester, Lynn (Mark) Vandenbusche, and Gail (Timothy) Spotts; grandchildren - Todd (Carolyn) Stratton, Brian (Lori) Stratton, Laura (Gabriel) Kuschel , Brooke (Jeff) Schulte, Morgan (David) Rappleye, Chelsea (Josh) Iffland, Luke Vandenbusche, Wade (Ashley) Vandenbusche, Tyler Spotts, and Clint (Zeina) Spotts; great-grandchildren - Marisa, Nadia, Sophia and Jack Stratton; Daphney, Tiffany, Peter, Bethany, Raphael, Xavier and Kimberly Kuschel; Raelyn and Brynn Schulte; Nathan and Logan Rappleye; and Kennedy and Kate Iffland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, grandson Nathan Chidester. sister Mary and brothers Jack and Ned.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, from 10 - 11 a.m. at Light of Christ - St. Peter Catholic Church in Blissfield. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at the church with Fr. Jeff Poll presiding. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.
