Cathy B. Smith was born in Suffolk, VA to Norma Lee Boyd and Dennis Joyner Boyd Jr., on August 31, 1958. She graduated from Indian River High School, where she was a clarinet player for the Marching Braves all four years of high school. Cathy was also a part of the flag team, yearbook staff, and the drama club. She then attended Tidewater Community College and Old Dominion University, receiving a bachelor's degree in accounting. She went on to work for a tire company and then Stihl Inc. She also attended Advanced Fuller School of Massage and became a massage therapist. She was an independent distributor of Premier Designs Jewelry/DVTD for 16 years. She was part of a country dance competition team.

In March of 2000, she met the love of her life, Ramon Howard Smith, and they married on April 28th, 2001. Cathy was always telling how blessed she was to have Ramon. He was always doing sweet, loving gestures to show her how much he loved her; such as writing her love letters when away, buying her favorite flowers – carnations – looking for ones that actually had a fragrance, just because, or helping take care of Momma.

Cathy enjoyed road trips with Ramon to many places, including California, Illinois and Utah to visit his family; to Dallas/Fort Worth, Philadelphia and Atlanta for Premier Designs Jewelry rallies, national parks; raceways and of course Nags Head. They also traveled to Michigan to see her sister and her family.

There were several trips to Michigan with Momma and Anne where they "kidnapped" Sharon for a Virginia visit. There was also the many "Momma & her girls" trips to Washington D.C., Williamsburg and Nags Head. The Sissy-wissies were a close bunch. They always said that sisters were different flowers from the same garden.

Many holiday weekends were spent at Cousin Cindy's. Cathy loved playing games, doing puzzles and just hanging out with family.

Cathy was loving, kind, and had a servant's heart to both God and family. She was especially close to her niece and nephew, Rachel & DJ. Cathy was very passionate about various causes; such as Paws of Hertford County, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, and the National Kidney Foundation. She also helped various families in need.

Cathy was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. As a child her family moved to Chesapeake and attended Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where, when older, she helped with the Senior Lunches and Vacation Bible School.

She was a member of Profit Partners, Future Billionaires, and business Network International.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Sharon Boyd Dunkelberger and Susan Boyd Caroon. Cathy is survived by her husband, sister Anne Boyd Matthews, brother Charles D. Boyd, niece Rachel A. Caroon, and nephew Dennis James (D.J.) Caroon (Mattie). She went peacefully into the hands of our Lord on Dec. 17th, 2021.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Paws of Hertford County, American Cancer Society, the National Kidney Foundation, Suicide Prevention, or Grace Presbyterian Church.

A celebration of Cathy's life will be held on January 8th, 2022 at 1p.m at Altmeyer-Chesapeake Chapel. A reception will follow at the Chesapeake Chapel.
