George Cecil Anderson, 68, of Gastonia passed away in the early morning of December 22, 2021 surrounded by his loving children.

Cecil was born in Ranlo, North Carolina on August 4, 1953. In high school, he was part of 1968 Holbrook High School State 2-A Baseball Championship team. And was a member of the first graduating class of Ashbrook High School in 1971. He graduated with honors in 1993 from Belmont Abbey College.

Cecil was a steadfast colleague at Duke Energy for 43 years, most recently working in resource deployment for regional nuclear sites. As an avid sports fan, Cecil spent over 4 decades serving his community as football and basketball official for local school sports. He was an active member of the Gaston County Football Officials Association. Along with his coworkers at Duke, Cecil assisted in organizing charity golf tournaments that raised tens of thousands of dollars for the United Way. Cecil was also a prolific blood donor, giving over 30 units throughout his life. His universal blood type donations were often designated for children's hospitals across North Carolina. He was a life-long fan of UNC Chapel Hill, ever a true-blue Tar Heel.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Frank D. Anderson and Irene Anderson, as well as a sister, Barbara Webb and brother, F. Calvin Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Anderson; son, Ryan Anderson of Gastonia, NC; daughter, Kim Anderson of Nashville, TN, and his dear nieces, Jennifer Webb and Heather Webb of Cramerton, NC. Along with Mother in-law, Ruby Lineberger of Bessemer City; brother in-law, Scott Lineberger of Bessemer City, and sister and brother in-law, Anne and Eddie Mathis of Forest City, and several nieces, nephews, and many extended family members. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm in The Dogwood Room at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park on New Hope Road in Gastonia, with funeral services to follow immediately after in The Cardinal Hall.
