Robert Lee "RL" Hensley, Sr. age 80 of Flag Pond, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in the Unicoi County Hospital after a lengthy illness. He is a son of the late Berry Oliver and Lula Edwards Hensley.
Robert was a native of Flag Pond but lived many years in Michigan before returning to Flag Pond. After retiring from General Motors, Robert worked for PTI at the CSX Railroad in Erwin for many years. He loved playing and listening to Bluegrass music. He enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach with his family, watching football, and working on his land.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Hensley on July 29, 2009.
Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons: Ricky Hensley of Flag Pond, Robert Hensley, Jr. and wife, Tammy of Linden, MI; one daughter, Kimberly Hensley of Grand Blanc, MI; two grandchildren: Ethan Robert Hensley and Jordan Hensley; one brother, Gerald Hensley and wife, Diann of Erwin; one sister, Mary Lee Sparks of Flag Pond and her late husband, Clarence Sparks; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, December 26, 2021 in the Berry Hensley Cemetery, Flag Pond. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:55 PM Sunday.
