Betty Jean Ray, 86 of Shepherdsville, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at University of Louisville Hospital. She was born on April 24, 1935 in Louisville, Kentucky.

She was a Baptist by faith. Betty worked in the office at Baptist Hospital for more than 20 years. Betty was reserved, and protective of herself and her family. She enjoyed challenging her mind with crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Morton Ray, Sr. and her parents Carl and Effie Godlett Simpson.

She is survived by her children Linda Mattingly and her husband Jerry of Louisville, Libby Thornhill, and Charles "Chuck" M. Ray, Jr. both of Shepherdsville; her brother Carl "Bubby" Simpson and his wife Jeanie of Falls of the Rough; her grandchildren Charles H. Ray, Beth Frame, Megan Sharp, Alicia Ray, Larry Thornhill, Jr., Bethany Mattingly, and Hunter Mattingly; along with 7 great-grandchildren; additional family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2021, at Maraman Billings Funeral Home. Family and friends are welcome to share memories and stories during this time. Private Burial is to take place Tuesday, December 28, 2021, in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
