William (Bill) J. Yates Jr., 69 of Des Plaines was born on September 20, 1951 in Chicago to William and Vivian (nee Huber) Yates and passed away on March 5, 2021. William was the beloved husband of Janet E. nee Keppen; loving father to Tony (Sheree) Yates and Matt Yates; cherished Papa to Jonathan and Ryan Yates; dear brother to Darlene Kmiecik, and the late Henry Yates; survived by his sister-in-laws Barbara Struck, Pat Leners, JoAnn Allen and their families; and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly by many.

Bill dutifully served the community in the roles of Maine Township Highway department driver, Park District Commissioner for the City of Des Plaines, as well as a Rosemont public safety officer.

Among the many organizations Bill was a part of, he enjoyed being involved with the Boy Scouts Troop #22, was an avid Harley Davidson motorcyclist, and a proud member of both the Blue Knights and Top Cats.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 7 from 12-4 pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. Des Plaines, IL 60016, followed by the funeral service at 4 pm at Oehler's.

In consideration of the safety of our guests and associates, Oehler Funeral Home will adhere to the current gathering restrictions in the state of Illinois, which allow 50 or fewer guests at services. Proper social distancing must be practiced and all guests will be required to wear face masks at all times. Thank you for your cooperation.

In lieu of flowers the family asks a donation be made to either St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 200 S. Wille St, Mount Prospect, IL 60056 or to the Liponi Foundation, 6820 W. Dempster St, Morton Grove, IL 60053.
