DORIS HALL DAVIS
A LIFE IN THE SERVICE OF THE LORD!

Doris Ethyl Hall Davis was the 5th child born to Luther Gould and Anna Hall Wesley. She joined John Wesley United Methodist Church at the age of 16 and continued a devoted service in the Lord. Doris was known to say, "I am who I am, because of Anna Hall." While at John Wesley, she grew into a Woman of God. She married Jacob Davis Sr, and to that union, gave life to 7 wonderful children, Jake Jr, Monroe Danny, Dora, Anna, Bruce, Frank, and Paulette. In 1993, her grandchildren, Woodrow, Ashley, and Sade joined her and provided her continued joy.

Teacher - Doris enjoyed opportunities to shape children's lives for over 50 years until her health failed. Fulfilling her spiritual gifts in the service of children, she served in many roles. From Sunday School Teacher to Superintendent, Vacation Bible School teacher to Vacation Bible School Director, and to our delight, Pageant Director for Easter, and Christmas programs. She, then was called to serve as a Deaconess at King Memorial Church and began a long journey with her prayer partners.

Educator – Doris went back to school in 1967 to obtain her GED and proceeded to receive her CDA Credential in 1989. She worked over 25 years in the Bridgeton Public Schools system from Crossing Guard to Substitute Teacher and continued the remaining years in Early Education at Head Start. She completed her education at Glassboro State College.

Missionary – Her missionary work started early by building the YAMs – Young Adults Ministry – at John Wesley United Methodist Church. Its fresh approach brought new life in the mission field, and many more young adults to the church. Doris' path eventually led her to work at Bethel Othello AME Church in Springtown. There, she worked tirelessly to build faith warriors through her Bible teachings in Sunday school. She later built on that by working on the restoration project at Bethel Othello AME, Springtown as a Trustee and Financial Committee member. Moving with the power of the missionaries, she worked to reveal the journey of slaves who passed through on the Missions field to free others. She continued her Missionary journey at Mt. Zion AME, a little quieter, a little slower, but still with great passion and a big heart.

Doris' passion has always been for children, but her best gift was in hospitality. Her doors were always open. Her table, always full of food, baked goods, and treats. There wasn't much she couldn't do in the kitchen and nothing she wouldn't share.

She's a QUEEN in her own right. Her children adore her, both present, and those waiting at the heavenly gates. One of her favorite hymns sums it up, "Let the Work I've Done Speak for Me."

She leaves to cherish her memories, Sons: Jacob, Jr., and Monroe Davis; Daughters: Dora Stocks & Paulette D. Motley (William); Grandchildren: Gordon Davis, Bruce Covington, Tammy Holden, Antwain Davis, Tia Stocks, Edward Davis, Ashley Davis, Sade Davis, Teron Stocks, Trey Motley & Cerise Motley; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins.

In addition to her parents, waiting for her at the gates are her siblings, Eldon Wesley, Monroe Wesley, Roscoe Hall, and Edith Johnson; her daughter, Anna Davis and two sons, Bruce Davis and Frank Davis.
