Thomas Joseph Murphy, 97, of Sicklerville, New Jersey, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Thomas Murphy was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1924. He served in the U.S. Army 8th Armored Division during WW2, and was injured in the Battle of the Bulge. Tom was reassigned to the Army Air Corps in England after recovering from his injuries. Near the end of the war he was reassigned again and sent to Berchtesgaden, Germany as part of a unit to restore order to the area. Thomas was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1946.

Thomas and Dolores were married in 1951 and settled in Brooklyn, NY. In the early sixties they relocated to Staten Island, NY where they raised their family. Thomas served with New York's Finest, the New York City Police Department, for over 20 years, working in precincts in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island, retiring out of the 122 precinct in 1977.

After Tom's retirement from the NYPD, he worked at Western Union International in lower Manhattan. Tom & Dolores settled in Southern New Jersey where they've lived since the late 80's.

In Thomas's later years, he took great joy spending as much time as possible with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Beloved husband of 70 years to Dolores (nee Anderson); loving father of Dennis (Mary) Murphy, Brian (Michele) Murphy, Susan (Ian) Palagye, Thomas J. Murphy, Jr.; devoted grandfather of Ryan, Jocelyn, Jill, Gabrielle, Michaela, Colin and Aidan. Thomas is predeceased by his siblings, Edward and Vera.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Thomas' visitation on Monday, December 27, 2021, 5:30 - 7:00 PM at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, New Jersey 08080 where the Funeral Ceremony will follow at 7:00 PM. Interment and Military Honors will take place on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 11 AM at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.

For the safety of everyone, the family is requesting that everyone who attends the services, wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Towers to Tunnels Foundation at www.t2t.org.
