Stewart Jerome "Bud" Wanke, age 83, of Farewell, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2004. He was born on December 23, 1920 in Bay City to Frederick and Lillian (Zibell) Wanke. Stewart was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army as an airplane mechanic. In June of 1946 he married Grace P. West and she preceded him in death in 1983. On June 23, 1989 he married Geraldine Hall in Harrison. He retired from Frigid Food and Cold Storage in Detroit in 1983 after 32 years of dedicated service. Following retirement he moved to Harrison where he loved hunting, fishing, ice-fishing and gardening. Bud was a member of the American Legion Post #404 of Harrison, the V.F.W. Post #1075 of Harrison where he was a life member, the Loyal Order of Moose #2235 of Harrison and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Harry #3541 of Harrison. He also love to do carpentry and was known for his wishing wells, birdhouses and bird feeders.

Mr. Wanke is survived by his wife, Gerry of Farwell; 3 dons, William of Clarkston, Dale of Teas, and Danny of Clarkston; 1 daughter, Audrienne Binienda of Clarkston; 2 step-sons, Glen L. Hall, Jr. of Clare and Gerald T. Hall of Harrison; 1 step-daughter, Glenda Hall of Midland; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A memorial service in celebration of the life of Stewart was held on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from the Stocking Funeral Home. Members of the American Legion Post #404 and the V.F.W. Post #107 will be officiating the service. Those desiring are asked to consider a contribution to the family in memory of Mr. Wanke.
