US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1817, began law practice in Somerset, Pennsylvania and was a member of the State House of Representatives, 1820 to 1822. In 1826, he was elected to the Nineteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Alexander Thomson, reelected to the Twentieth Congress and reelected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress, serving until 1831. After his term, he was appointed prothonotary and recorder of Somerset County, serving until his death. US Representative Walter Forward was his brother.
