Michael Joseph Nichols, 62, of Newburgh passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021. He was born February 1, 1959 in Evansville.

He served 44 years in the fire service including: Herndon Fire Department 1977-1982, founding member of Knight Township Fire Department serving from 1982-2001, and was the current Battalion Chief of the Ohio Township Fire Department beginning in 2005. He was also one of the founding owners with his brother Maury of Nichols Fire and Fleet, starting in 2008. Mike loved his family and grandchildren, especially family vacations. He loved the life he lived and his fire department and work families.

Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Mark; sister, Kathy; father, Jim, and grandparents, Emma and Albert Folz and Clarence and Helen Nichols.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Nichols; children, Chrissy Nichols, Jason Nichols (Burgandy), and Sara Clark (Kenny), all of Newburgh; step-children, Christopher Deffendoll (Sara) of Mount Juliet, TN, Andrea McCormick (Rickey) and Lori Teter of Evansville; grandchildren, Caleb, Hayley, Aidan, Jenna, MacKensey, Gregory, Kaitlynn, Justin, Jakob, Brayden, Kiera, Emmett and Lily; mother, Mary Ann Nichols, of Evansville; siblings, Maury (Patty) of Evansville, John (Doris) of Newburgh, and Jimmy (Andrea) of Boonville; sister-in-law, Dawn Nichols of Newburgh, and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 27, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Rd., officiated by Rev. Jack Durchholz, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may visit 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261 and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
