John Timothy Riddick, age 72, originally of Centerville, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021 at his home in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

He was born in Centerville, Iowa on July 4, 1949, the son of Thomas B. and Alice (Peck) Riddick. John graduated from Centerville High School in 1967. He was united in marriage to Barbara Buchanan at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Centerville on October 28, 1967.

John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 24, 1967. During his career, one of his many military duties included operating as an aircraft mechanic. He served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War, earning numerous military honors, including the National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ device, Vietnam Service Medal, and the RVNAFMUCGC w/ palm. Following a distinguished military career, John was honorably discharged on July 21, 1982, achieving the rank of Sergeant.

John spent many years serving in law enforcement. From 1973-1980, he was a deputy with the Appanoose County Sheriffs Office. In 1982 John served as the Centerville Chief of Police. In 1989 he became a correctional officer at the Rock Island, Illinois County Jail. He later became the chief of police in LeClaire, Iowa in 1991. In 1994 John relocated to southern Iowa when he became the chief deputy of the Monroe County, Iowa Sheriffs Office. John became an investigator with the D.O.T. Motor Vehicle Enforcement in 1997, a position he maintained until his retirement in 2010.

Throughout his lifetime, John enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Left to cherish his memory includes his wife of 54 years, Barbara Riddick of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; two children, Tim and Troy Riddick; seven grandchildren, Levi Riddick, Macie Riddick, Victoria Riddick, Charles Lovelace, Matthew Lovelace, James Lovelace, and Zachary Lovelace; two sisters, Pam (Richard) Winegarden of Seymour, Indiana and Theresa (Cecil) Samuel of Melrose, Iowa.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas B. and Alice Riddick; a son, Master Sergeant Travis Riddick; a brother, Thomas Edward Riddick; sister, Patricia Clarke; and a niece, Jennifer Robinson.

According to Johns wishes, cremation has been accorded. Due to the holidays, there are no scheduled services at the present time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Barbara Riddick, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
