Paula Marie Kerr
December 5, 1932-December 12, 2017

Longtime Resident of Concord
Paula Kerr, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away on December 12 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Paula was born in Madison, Illinois, the third child of Edward and Anne Zalewski.
Music was always a significant part of Paula's life. She sang in the church choir, was a soloist at school events, and taught songs in her classroom every day.
She graduated from Illinois State Normal with a teaching credential. She enjoyed travel, and taught in several different states: Illinois, Colorado, California, Massachusetts, and Hawaii, almost always in Kindergarten.
While teaching near the Navy base in Coronado, she met Richard Kerr, whom she married in 1960. They moved frequently early in their marriage due to graduate school and Navy assignments, and three daughters were born during this time.
The family moved to southern California in 1968, and to Concord in 1970, where Paula began teaching for the MDUSD. Her first eighteen years were spent in Bay Point, mostly at Bel Air Elementary. She transferred to Ygnacio Valley Elementary, and later to Highlands Elementary, where she stayed until she retired in 2002.
In retirement, Paula continued to support education as a substitute teacher and volunteered with First 5 in Concord, the Retired Teachers' Association, Singing Messengers, and other organizations until her health precluded her participation.
Paula was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard, in 2012, her parents, and her brother, Bob. She is survived by her daughters, Julia Meneghetti (Mike) of Pleasant Hill, Carolee Kerr of Virginia, and Deborah Kerr of Scottsdale, Arizona. Also survived by her sister, Natalie DeLuca, of Pueblo, Colorado, and three nieces. She leaves her grandchildren Angela and Lauren Meneghetti, and Brandon Kerr, extended family, and many friends.
The family thanks the staff of Immaculate Care on Withers for their extraordinary and loving care of our mother over the past several years.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Friday, December 22, at 3:00 in the Fireside Room of the Old Masonic Temple next to the Galindo House at 1721 Amador Ave in Concord.
