Son of Reed Bennett and Sarah Stowe Bennett.
Valentine Bennett died Wednesday of last week at the home of his son, Charles Bennett, south of Lebanon, ages 78 years and 4 months.
Death has taken another of Laclede county's oldest residents. One by one these stalwart pillars are succumbing to the power of death.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. W. Gadd, of Oakland, last Thursday, December 15th. The text was Job 14:14. Interment was in the Grange Hall cemetery where the funeral was conducted.
Mr. Bennett spent his entire life in this county, with the exception of a few years which were spent in Illinois in his early manhood.
He was united in marriage to Miss Cynthia Margaret O'Dell August 30, 1876. To this union, six children four of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Jessie Stowe, Lee, Charles and Samuel Bennett. He is survived also, by six grandchildren. His wife and his oldest daughter, Mrs. Dolph Bowman passed away about 3 years ago and the other son in infancy.
Mr. Bennett was a member of the Christian Church, a kind and loving husband, father and neighbor.
The surviving children and grandchildren were with him in his last illness, except the youngest son, Samuel, who with his wife and his daughter, Mildred reside near Bloomville, N.Y.
May God comfort the bereaved ones.
