John was a United States Air Force veteran. He was an active member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church Knoxville. John was an avid golfer (with two hole-in-ones), an awesome Rook player, and took great pride in maintaining his yard.
Preceded in death by parents, John and Helen Kurtz of Ft. Wayne, IN; brothers, Donald Kurtz of Coldwater, MI, Al Kurtz of Auburn, IN; sisters, Norma Durnell and Mary Davis both of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Barbara Henry of Oxnard, CA.
Survived by his loving wife of 66 years, June Kurtz; son, Greg (Stacey) Kurtz of Knoxville; daughters, Lyn (Gary) Samples of White Pine, TN, and Angela (Spencer) Brooks of Nashville, TN; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and special friend and brother-in-law, V.C. Pratt of Knoxville.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Monday, December 27, 2021, at Bridges Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 7:00 PM with Pastor Justin Pratt and Pastor Charlie McNutt officiating. Family and friends will meet 8:15 AM on Tuesday at East TN Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier for an 8:30 AM interment with military honors provided by Volunteer State Honor Guard.
