Stephen Thomas Jones passed from this life on December 18, 2021. He was 71 years old.

Tom was born in Asheville in 1950, to Arnold and LaVerne Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Jim Jones, Aunt Velma Candler, Uncle Talmadge Davis, Uncle Ted Jones, Aunt Eloise Jones, and his brothers-in-law Bob and Bill Richards.

Tom enjoyed a happy childhood growing up in Black Mountain, and graduated from Charles D. Owen High School. He continued his education at Western Carolina University, receiving a BS in Business. Upon graduation, he and his father founded Arnold Jones & Son, a real estate, land development, and building company. One of their many projects was Alpine Meadows in Swannanoa. Later, Tom began his own business, and was involved in developing Four Brothers, Lake Eden Acres, Beech Glen, and several other neighborhoods. He also built and remodeled homes throughout western North Carolina.

Tom was involved in youth activities, and coached several sports. He was a huge Tar Heel fan and his comments during their basketball games still live on. He volunteered for and supported many projects in the area. He served on the boards of the Black Mountain Recreation Department, the Chamber of Commerce, the Swannanoa Valley Museum, the Christmount Utilities Committee, and others.

His favorite hobbies were camping, hiking, and biking. His favorite pastime, however, was spending time with his family and close friends, who enjoyed his love, positive attitude, intelligence, and unique sense of humor.

Tom is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his two sons and their wives, Gabe and Merrin Jones, and Tim and Juli Jones. He also leaves behind three grandsons, Evan, Ryan and Cooper; his sister Martha Baldwin and her husband Mike; brother Paul Jones and his wife Sarah; cousin Eddie Jones and his wife Janet; sister-in-law Kathryne Jones; his Richards family in-laws, Chuck and Yvonne Richards, Linda Richards, Lorraine and Frankie Parker, Steve and Pam Richards, Rosanna Richards; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid, there will be no service. The family will celebrate his life on a future date.
