Betty Lou Leonard, age 94, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Alice Lorraine Care Center on December 17, 2021.

Betty Lou was born in Butte, Montana on April 18, 1927 to Morris E. and Margaret (Laurence) Spackman. She had two siblings: a brother, Eugene, and a sister, Mary Lee.

After graduating high school in Butte, Mt. she moved to San Francisco, Ca. and worked in a lithotype factory during WWII. It was in the city by the bay that she met a tall, handsome sailor who became the love of her life – Edwin T. Leonard. They married on February 12, 1946 and celebrated 74 anniversaries together before sadly, he preceded her in death on July 29, 2020 at the age of 95.

Betty and Ed spent their married life in Monroe, Michigan where they raised five children. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Betty had a passion for motherhood and was a devoted homemaker. A little later in her life, she also worked for Ed as a secretary in his State Farm Office.

Betty enjoyed her family and friends, and enjoyed preparing many delicious meals to show how much she cared for them. To the delight of her grandchildren, she mastered cake decorating and surprised them with the many themed birthday cakes they happened to fancy over the years. Betty also enjoyed singing in her church choir, traveling, travel trailer clubs, bowling, playing cards, gardening, and extension clubs. She was always there to help raise her grandchildren and assist her adult children all through her life.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, and a son, Edwin Jr.; parents; siblings; a grandson, Royal Brent Keller; and a great granddaughter, Miranda Lynn Wiley.

The visitation and funeral service will be private due to COVID-19. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2022, and burial of cremains will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park for both Betty Lou and Edwin at that time.
