Dr. Michael Edward Madden, 58, died February 22, 2019, near Hays. He was born to Edward F. Madden, Jr. and Leona (Lee) Madden. Survivors include his loving wife, Theresa, nurse clinician at FHSU, and two sons, Levi and Luke, of which he was most proud. Levi is a mechanical engineer and his wife, Kelsey, an architect, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Luke is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in mechanical engineering at Texas A & M, College Station, Texas. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Edward (Eddie) Madden.
Mike was the oldest boy in a family of seven children. He is survived by his mother, three sisters, Kim (Doug) Porter, Hutchinson, Shelley (Steve) Lowen, CO Springs, and Shannon (Jim) Roberts, Hutchinson, and three brothers, Joe (Tammy) Olathe, Bill, Omaha, Neb, and Charles (Lisa), Falls Church, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. Madden was the unlikely combination of college professor and country cowboy. He grew up in Hays, was a graduate of Hays High School, received his B.S. from FHSU and earned his PHD. in human anatomy at KU. He was a research assistant at the K.U. medical Center in Kansas City, where he met his wife, Theresa, but being a country boy at heart, he chose to return to his roots. He accepted a position in the Allied Health Department at FHSU, teaching radiology technology, where he was held in high regard by both faculty and students. He also taught a virtual class for the Univ. of NE and authored multiple textbooks on human anatomy, one even translated into Portuguese. On evenings and weekends, come rain or shine, he headed for the country to mend fences, build corrals, and tend cattle. He drove a mean 4-wheeler. His life was a balance between mental and physical activity and it worked well for him and his family, until his body gave out.
He was known as a caring, kind man with a ready smile. His life was not long, but he touched so many in such a positive way. He leaves behind a great legacy, the family he loved with all his heart, and the many students he taught and encouraged. He will be missed and long remembered.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorial Visitation will be Friday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with memory sharing at 7 pm all at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays.
