Mike was born in Fort Worth, TX on December 4, 1951 to George and Edrye Byrd. He had a passion for many things; his work, building classic cars (in either Bahama blue or bright red), gardening, and especially the Lord. He loved church and going to revivals. He was a man of faith and always enjoyed sharing his faith with others. He also loved watching his squirrels and birds, specifically hummingbirds and cardinals. In his younger years, Mike was an avid waterskier and loved spending time out on the lake. He was a family man. Someone you could always talk to. Not only to his own two kids, but also to all the kids in the neighborhood. He always looked for the bright side of things, and never complained. When he became a Papa, his heart grew even bigger. He loved getting to spend one on one time with them and making them laugh. Mike worked faithfully at Lockheed Martin for 40 years. He worked in mock-up and in the tube shop. He was able to work on many different programs during his time there; F-16, F-35, the first prototype of F-22 and he also worked on the Big Safari Program. He enjoyed working in mock-up and supporting the assembly line when they needed a fix. He loved it because it gave him the opportunity to get to meet everyone in the factory. His smile brightened every room he walked in and he never met a stranger. If you met him, you instantly became family. He was a loving Husband, Father, and Papa. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Edrye.
