Carol Lee McClain, daughter of Sidney Cornelius and Josephine Genevieve (Seaboy) Roberts, was born at Sisseton, South Dakota on July 12, 1961. Following the death of her parents, Carol and her siblings, Janice and Llewellyn, were adopted by Ross and Shelba Harmonson. Carol spent her youth in South Dakota, Colorado, Montana and northwest Iowa, receiving her GED at Spencer, Iowa. She went on to earn her CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) certificate, using her education and skill to improve the lives of others.

When she was just hanging around the house, Carol loved to listen to music. In her free time, she enjoyed hitting rummage sales, looking for the next "treasure" hidden in bags or boxes, just waiting for a new home. However, there was never a yard sale good enough to keep her away from her grandchildren – they were her pride and joy. Her most treasured times were those spent playing with, and cuddling, her beloved grandkids.

Carol was a lover of life, people and animals. She took enormous pleasure in caring for others, especially those in need of a friend or a kind word. Being a "people person", she found it easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends; treating everyone like they were family. Her warm smile and one-of-a-kind laugh will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Holding fast to her Baptist faith, Carol peacefully moved to a new life on Thursday, December 16, 2021. She now joins the company of loved ones who have gone on before: her parents, Sidney and Josephine Roberts; her adoptive mother, Shelba Harmonson; her sister, Glendoris Joann Keeble Bury; brothers: Leon Roberts, Lyle Keeble, Matthew Gill, and Richard Harmonson.

Left to cherish her memory are her adoptive father, Ross Harmonson; her very special friend, Jeffrey Gerritson of Sanborn, Iowa; her children and spouses: Joshua Mann of Cherokee, Iowa, Jason Mann of Sanborn, Iowa, Benjamin (Megan) Lockwood of Cherokee, Iowa, Cheyenne (Shannon) Chindlund of Sanborn, Iowa, Justin (Karen) McClain of Cherokee, Iowa and step-son, Matthew (Kaitlyn) Robinson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters: Carleen Hayes of Lubbock, Texas, Marsha Harmonson of Spencer, Iowa, Debbie (Ben) Yoder of Ankeny, Iowa, Janice Roberts of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Sherryl Tressler of Sanborn, Iowa; brothers: Darrell (Cyndy) Roberts of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Llewellyn (Betty Mukangira) Harmonson of Grapevine, Texas; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
