Matthew Joseph O'Brien, Esq., resident of Wall Township, New Jersey, passed into God's eternal kingdom Friday, December 2021. He was 53 years old.
Matthew was born in the Bronx but raised in Ridgefield, New Jersey. He attended St. Matthew's school there and later graduated Bergen Catholic High School and Iona college with business and marketing degrees. He later received his Juris Doctor Degree from New York Law and practiced law for many years, being known as an expert in New Jersey automotive and personal injury protection laws. He fought and successfully won a case at the New Jersey Supreme court in 2009.
However, Matthew would account no accomplishment greater than being happily married to his beloved Tracey (Theresa) for nearly 11 years and being a devoted dad to his son Matthew Thomas, 10 and daughter Delia Elizabeth, 4. His family was his everything and they were delighted to spend the last few years at the Jersey Shore.
Matthew is predeceased by his parents, Norman T O'Brien, known affectionately as "Butch", his mother Janice and his sister Catherine. He leaves behind one surviving sibling, his sister, Kelly O'Brien, also of Wall.
He counted dozens of friends, from childhood and school, as his extended family and he would use the term "brother" with them in the truest sense of the word. They, along with his neighbors and the legal community mourn a man who knew no enemy and was loved by all.
Matthew was a man of imposing stature, outmatched only by his heart, wit, and sense of justice.
Viewing and condolences will be Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 3-7 p.m. at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, December 20th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark's RC Church, Sea Girt, followed by interment at St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall.
