Hayes, Va. - Julie Ann Barker (Cash), 60, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of December 10th, 2021 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, VA. She was born at Dixie Hospital in Hampton, VA on December 11th, 1960. She graduated from Ferguson High School in 1977, early at age 17. Julie lived in Newport News, VA until 1981 when she moved to Gloucester, VA with her husband and first son in their family home where she would raise all three of her children, four grandchildren, and many of her children's friends over the years. Julie had many different jobs in her lifetime, most notably as a caretaker for elderly and convalescent patients. Her most important job though was being a homemaker and raising her children and grandchildren with love and compassion beyond measure.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry F. Cash, Sr. and Betty Jean Cash (Gilbert). Julie was truly a wonderful and loving daughter, sibling, wife, mother, and friend to all of us whom were blessed to know her. She always put everyone else in her life first before herself and would always give more than she had to anyone in need. She did not have an ounce of selfishness in her and she truly taught us all what love is really meant to be. Upon her passing, her family received so many messages about how special Julie was because she had a genuine heart and kindness unlike any other, and because she always took EVERYONE into her home and made them feel welcome. Many have said that she was like a mother figure to them and wanted to express how important that was in their life. She offered love and grace to all, and she had a truly special way about her of making us all believe in ourselves and our abilities. Throughout her life she had many things she loved including treasure hunting for old bottles and relics in the woods, visiting the beach to collect shells, ghost hunting, collecting marbles, and hummingbirds. What she loved the most though was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and collecting their artwork made for her. Julie was truly a one-of-a-kind soul who will be missed by all who knew her. We rejoice in knowing that her legacy of kindness and love will live on through all of us, echoing on forever in the lives we will touch positively because of her bright light and all that she did for us in her short time here.
Anyone whose life was touched by Julie is invited to the chapel at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, VA for a service on Monday, December 20th, 2021 at 10am. A private viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 19th, 2021 from 6-8pm at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown, VA. Services will be administered by Amory Funeral Home, and lead by family pastor, Dr. Chris McMillan.
