Obituary for Robert Waggoner
Robert Waggoner, 76, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, December 16, 2021, at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines. He was born January 25, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Robert Dewayne and Marie Phillis Grubb Waggoner. He graduated from Oskaloosa Senior High with the class of 1962. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a machine operator and an operating engineer. He was honorably discharged on April 16, 1965. Following his discharge, he settled in Florida for a short time before returning to Iowa. Robert was a truck driver his entire working career. He drove everything from concrete trucks to local job sites to multi-state over the road long hauls. The last several years of his career he was an owner/operator leased on with DART transportation. He retired from driving truck in 2007.

Robert was a dedicated family man. His family situation was unique, but he was the core and determined to show love and care to them all. His first marriage was to Donna Smith. To this union Wendy and Richard were born. After eight years Donna and Robert divorced. He was later married to Margie Pile. Robert welcomed her children, Donna, Debbie, Mike, and Marie as his own. After years of marriage the two of them were divorced. He then enjoyed a long-term relationship with Doris Fortenberry. A daughter Diana was born to this union. Robert was then married to Joyce Schneider. He welcomed her children, Kathy, Julie, and Shirley as his own. Robert and Joyce had a son Jared. After 18 years of marriage the two of them were divorced. He was last married to Sandra Elrod. He welcomed her children Heather, Hillary, and Heath. Robert was proud of his children and stepchildren, he enjoyed relationships with all of them even if the marriages did not continue.

He had a lifelong love for automobiles. He particularly enjoyed his classic Nova that he once owned. One of his favorite past times was visiting various car dealerships and seeing what was on the lot. Often, he would test drive various cars just to see how they would drive with little or no interest in purchasing one. He also enjoyed watching racing. A highlight for him was a day spent with his son Jared at the Newton Racetrack participating in the Rusty Wallace Race Experience. He also enjoyed watching television and spoiling his dogs Spanky and Sparky.

His family includes his companion, Sandra Waggoner of Oskaloosa; four children, Richard Waggoner of Iowa, Wendy (Gary) Roetto of Stark City, Missouri, Diana (Billy) Young of Oskaloosa, and Jared (Kanya) Waggoner of Oskaloosa; sixteen grandchildren; and stepchildren and step grandchildren that he has loved over the years; and his godson Jay Stewart.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
