Sharon Lynn (Raines) Hill, 70, of Garrett Fork/Chapmanville, departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021 after a brief illness. Sharon also proudly and honorably bore the titles of "Mom," "Mommaw" and "Honey" during her beautiful life.

Sharon joyfully served and cherished her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for all of her days, and "henceforth there is laid up for (her) a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, shall give (her) at that day." She was baptized in 1971 and became a faithful member of the First Church of the Lord Jesus Christ on Garrett Fork.

In serving her God, Sharon lived a life of service to others. She selflessly cared for her elderly sister for the past 20 years, fulfilling a solemn vow she made to her father when he passed away in 2001. Sharon loved to give, to help, to volunteer, to contribute, to make others feel like celebrities. It was one of her many gifts. It was almost as if she sought out the lost causes and the downtrodden.

Sharon was a faithful wife of 51 years and a mother for 45 of those. And a proud grandmother for 17 years. A housewife extraordinaire, she looked "well to the ways of her household, and (ate) not the bread of idleness." Her cooking and her hospitality shamed even The Greenbrier.

"It was impossible to dislike Sharon." That is a phrase often repeated about her. She lit up a room with her smile, her beautiful blue eyes and her contagious laugh that couldn't help but spread to others. And she kept the local Salvation Army, Goodwill and Pallet Bin stores in business.

Sharon adored her God, her church, her Bible study sisters in Christ, her husband, her children and her granddaughter, her other relatives, as well as her flowerbed and beautiful suns that set outside the westward facing window toward which her recliner was pointed.

She will never be forgotten, and she will always be missed. This world is a darker place without the precious glow of "the rose of Sharon." As we know and as she sang at many a funeral, "Roses Will Bloom Again."

Sharon is survived by her husband, Sherry, of North Fork of Big Creek. She is also survived by her children: Matt of Huntington and Emily of North Fork of Big Creek, as well as her granddaughter, Ava of North Fork of Big Creek.

Sharon's passing is also mourned by a host of Raines family brothers and sisters: Joyce, Doris, Iris, Patricia, Bill and Katrina. And Sherry's siblings, who considered Sharon an actual sister: Sue, Paul, Earl II and Barb.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents-Emmett Raines and Mabel (Stowers) Raines of Barker Fork, as well as by three brothers (Rick, Michael and Bob) and a sister (Monica).

Visitation will be on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00pm on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Freeman Funeral Home, located at 220 Main St. in Chapmanville, with Earl Hill II and Paul Hill officiating. Burial will follow at the Hill Family Cemetery, Chapmanville, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform a kind deed for someone else or donate to a reputable charity of your choosing. Sharon was never focused on herself: Only on others.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
