Our beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma, Mary Lee vonStein, 95, went to her heavenly home on December 9, 2021. She died peacefully in her sleep on the farm where she lived with her daughter.

Mary Lee was born February 13, 1926 in Mound City, Missouri to Frank and Pansy (Black) Fuhrman (both deceased), being the youngest of 7 children. Mary Lee's mom died later that same year and when Mary Lee was about 2, her dad moved to an orphanage in Flat Rock, Ohio with the 5 youngest siblings.

She graduated from Thompson High School in 1944 being active in volleyball, basketball, cheering, and playing violin, later switching to coronet so she could be in the marching band.

She met her husband, John, at a bowling alley. They married at Trinity in Jenera on February 16, 1947 and moved to the family farm, where they were blessed with 69 years of marriage until John passed away in 2016.

Mary Lee and John had 3 children: Kathy Gosdeck, Bluffton; Bob, WA; Tim, deceased in 1990. She also has 4 grandchildren: Carmen (Kevin) Johnson, CA, McDarra vonStein, WA, Kris (Pete) Buege, WI, and Jeff (Michelle) Kusowski, WA; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Wilda vonStein; and 3 step-granddaughters and their families. Mary Lee loved helping others and babysitting for them and added many to her extended family. Also, she has many special nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, in addition to John and Tim, were her son-in-law, Don Gosdeck; great-grandson; sisters: Frances, Doris, Agnes; and brothers: Ernest, Mel, and Wayne.

She was baptized on April 12, 1936 and became a member of Trinity after her confirmation on June 11, 1947. She was an active member of their ladies' group. Mary Lee enjoyed gardening and canning, still helping until she was 94!, mowing lawn, baking, reading, walking in the woods, crosswords, games, and sitting on the porch swing. She loved watching sports, especially the Buckeyes and Cleveland teams. She also bowled for many years where she won many awards. For over 50 years, she was part of a pinochle group with the same ladies from Trinity. They shared laughter, tears, and encouragements, and even a little card playing.

Mary Lee's family was a special blessing in her life. She loved watching various activities of grandkids and great-grandkids in person or online. One special memory was getting to visit the grandkids and seeing their homes. Attending church was an important part of her week and this past year she enjoyed listening and watching various services from near and far. She was thankful for phone calls, cards, and visits and those who helped keep the home fires burning.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Crates Funeral Home in Arlington. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jenera, with additional visitation one hour (10:00-11:00am) prior to the service. Pastor Matthew Nowak will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School or a charity of your choice. Online condolences are welcomed at www.coldrencrates.com.
