Hershel McElwrath, of Kennett, was born Dec. 8, 1923 to Lee and Ella Estelle (Herrell) McElwrath, in White Oak. He enjoyed 91 years on this earth.

He leaves behind a daughter, Charlotte Hicks, to cherish his memory.
Mr. McElwrath was proud to be a World War II veteran having entered the Navy just before Pearl Harbor and remained until he was wounded in action. Mr. McElwrath did many things after leaving the Navy, including owning his own store on First Street and being a truck driver for many years.

He was a member of the VFW and Eagles, a past member of the Masonic Lodge, and was a Shriner.

He loved to socialize, awakening in the afternoon and "going to work," as he would say. He could always be found with a cowboy hat on and a smile on his face. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved life.

In addition to his daughter, Charlotte, he is survived by three step-sons, Shaun Green, of Kennett, Greg Green, of Kennett, and Keith McClanahan, of Blytheville; on step-daughter, Sue Vincent, of Colorado; one brother, Harold "Hoot" McElwrath, of Kennett; two grandsons, Jimmie "Trey" Smith III and Jeremiah Vincent; three granddaughters, Andrea Jones, Nicole Green, and Shay Green; and four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Leslie and Alexis Jones, and Raegan Green.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby McClanahan; four brothers, Bob, A.C., Billy and Jimmy; and two sisters, Lu Alice and Pearl.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 in the McDaniel Chapel with Rev. Judy Conder officiating. Burial will follow in Gregory Cemetery in Kennett.
