Edward E. Watkins Jr., 84 passed away peacefully at Reynolds Memorial Hospital on Friday, December 10, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born January 2, 1937, the son of the late Edward Sr. and Edith Watkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann.

Ed was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and attended services at Martins Ferry First Christian Church as well. A former resident of Warwood, Ed attended St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, and was a member of the football team. He was selected as the 1958 Catholic All American full and half back and his portrait still hangs in the college hallway today.

After graduation Ed's passion for teaching led him to a successful career as a teacher, administrator, and coach. He retired from Brooke High School, after coaching and mentoring many young Ohio Valley athletes. Ed hardly ever went anywhere without running into someone he previously taught or coached.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Doris, daughters Barb Yourkovich, Mary (Michael) Jones, Lori (Terry) Ackerman, sons; Scott (Julie) Watkins, Dennis (Anne) Watkins, Todd Watkins, Fred (Della) Misenhelder, Gary (Marta) Misenhelder, Dave Misenhelder, and Doug Misenhelder. He was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Per Ed's wishes, there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 12 noon at St. Mary's Catholic Church, N. 4th St., Martins Ferry, with Fr. Thomas Marut as celebrant, interment in Riverview Cemetery Martins Ferry.
