John Robert Roach, 87, a longtime resident of the Afton area passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at his home in Afton surrounded by his family. Mr. Roach was born on February 4, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri to Sherman Isaac and Bertha Elizabeth (Griner) Roach. On January 30, 1954, he married his love of sixty-seven years Betty Jean Matthews. Mr. Roach was a Jack of all Trades. He could do about anything, he enjoyed being a carpenter and working outside. While living in Kansas City he was president of the KC Frogman's Club. He worked with recovery dive teams at that time too. Mr. Roach was a member of the United States Army. He was very proud of his service. He was also a member of the American Legion. John was very independent even in his later years he was still cutting wood and would often stop and pick up trash along the side of the roads. Mr. Roach's parents preceded him in passing along with brothers Harold Hadel and Fred Roach, a sister Martha Cates, and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include his wife Betty Jean Roach, his children Bill Roach, Rick Roach and his wife Tania, Roxana Thompson and her husband Jim Ed, Mark Roach and Jim Roach and his wife Kim, his brother his grandchildren Kim Wendelton, Brandy Roach, Brandon Roach, Michael Roach, Kristy Roach, Jason VanHoose, Baja Thompson, John Thompson, Sara Thompson, Heather Roach, Kenadie Roach, Jake Roach, Jimmy Cole Roach, Josh Roach, Cassie Zabel, Cody Kitchingham, Jackie Kitchingham, and Jessi Taggart along with twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
