She grew up in the Cromwell community and was a high school graduate of Butner High School. She married Todd Maples on June 21, 1986 and they had lived in Shawnee for the last 35 years. She was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.
Rita loved to decorate for Christmas and watch all her favorite Christmas movies. She enjoyed going to church, shopping, traveling and spending time with her grandkids and watching them play sports.
Rita is survived by her husband Todd Maples of the home in Shawnee, Oklahoma, her sons; Jonathan Maples and his wife Stefanie of Seminole, Oklahoma and Zachary Maples of Norman, Oklahoma, her brother; Legus Harjo, Jr. and his wife Connie of McLoud, Oklahoma, sisters; Janis Dawson of McLoud, Oklahoma, Sheila Bannon and her husband Jeff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and her grandchildren; Dayton, Baiah, Makyiah and Serenity Maples.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darrell Harjo and her sister Anita Harjo.
The wake service will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 17 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 18 at Little Quarsarty Church with Joe Lindsey and Fred Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at the Lindsey Family Cemetery.
