Charlotte "flew away" into the loving arms of the Lord Jesus Christ on December 10, 2021. She was born to Esther and Albin Reeck in Bellingham in 1928, when she became the cute little baby sister in the life of her big brother Merlin. Charlotte loved sledding down Liberty St. hill with her Dad.
With a love for horses, she started working as a "soda jerk" at the Fountain Drug Store for her uncle to start earning money towards her first horse. Charlotte also picked strawberries and beans in the summertime. Her first horse was "Dusty" and then came "Ace." She would ride all over the country-side with her Aunt Loretta.
Charlotte graduated from Bellingham High School in 1946 and from Western Washington University in 1949 with a three-year teaching degree. She loved photography and, while in college, was taking pictures of Ski to Sea up at Mt. Baker. She moved a little closer to the edge of a cliff trying to get a better shot when the snow went out from under her and she fell about 150' breaking her lower back. She finished her schooling in a cast and maternity dress (to make room for the cast). Charlotte went back for additional schooling after getting married to Arnold Aamot in 1951. Arnold worked as a mechanic while Charlotte taught elementary school in Everett and Bellingham.
The Country Store was an outgrowth of Charlotte's love for horses (and her knack for bargaining). She left the teaching profession and started selling western tack (saddles, boots, spurs, cowboy hats, shirts, etc). The business later expanded into selling horse trailers.
Charlotte loved family, and enjoyed gatherings at her Mom and Dad's house, her place, Merlin and Saralee's house, Sandy Point, and Cornwall Park. She is survived by her three children, Mark (Julie) Aamot, Kris Aamot, and Matt (Brenda) Aamot. She also survived by 17 grandchildren: Matthew (Christine), Joshua, Nellie (Ricky), Ben, Dale (Brianne), Ethan (Nia), and Daniel; Audrey, Amelia, Allison, Ava, and Annie; Kyle (Lisa), Colin, Connor, and Kady. Charlotte was preceded in death by husband Arnold, Mom and Dad, brother Merlin and sister-in-law Saralee, and grandson Aaron who she missed greatly. She also has 18 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other family members that she deeply valued.
We would like to thank Charlotte's caregivers, especially those at Silverado. Over the last several years, many caregivers have said how special she was.
