Gilligan Funeral Home Burial December 17 2021
Charles William Bauer aka "Bill" or "Charlie" was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 12, 1937. He passed away quietly on December 9, 2021. He was the eldest of six children born to Carl and Henrietta Bauer, with four brothers, Leonard, Robert, George and Daniel, and a sister Carol. He attended Saint Bonaventure grade school and graduated in 1955 from Roger Bacon high school. He followed in his father's footsteps when he first started working as a carpenter with his father at a young age, and then later establishing his own business as a general contractor, specializing in commercial construction. Notable projects include completion of the Evendale Firehouse and Woodland Mound County Park.
In 1961 he met Renee Klobutowski, and they were married in 1962. They had their first child Bill in 1963; second Mark in 1965 and third child Teri, in 1967. He built their first home on Brushwood Lane in Cincinnati in 1962. In 1972 the family moved to Madeira, Ohio, where his sons both graduated from Moeller high school and daughter graduated from Ursuline Academy. Education was an important value to him, and he was especially proud of his three children, all of whom graduated from college.
Charlie loved horses ever since he had a pony when he was young. He became fascinated with thoroughbred racing and was the owner of several racehorses. The study of thoroughbred pedigrees and racing became one of his most passionate hobbies. He shared this love of horses with Teri as well as Mark. He always encouraged Teri to pursue her love of horses and enjoyed watching her ride. He attended many different racetracks with Mark throughout the years and enjoyed handicapping horses. He helped his son, Bill, build his house in 2005 in Michigan. In the last 20 years, he enjoyed many camping trips with Bill in Northern Michigan. He was a lover of the great outdoors along with a good campfire!
Charlie had many friends and acquaintances. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved to tell stories, jokes, and was the life of the party. He had a special talent for reciting poetry and speeches he had memorized throughout his life. He was a notable character, and his colorful expressions will be remembered affectionately by all who knew him.
His legacy will be his fighting strength, work ethic, and zest for living life to the fullest without fear.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Robert and Daniel. He is survived by two brothers, Leonard and George, who reside in Cincinnati, Ohio, his sister Carol, who resides in New Hampshire, as well as his 3 children, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 11 nieces and nephews.
