Norman Ben Bookout, much loved husband, father, and granddad, passed to the peaceful Kingdom of Heaven on December 14, 2021, at the age of 84.

Norman was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to Nancy Lucille and Hugh Ben Bookout.

He grew up in Hereford, Texas alongside his future wife, Jane Evalyn Newsom. After graduating from Hereford High School, Norman attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. There he fell for the love of his life, Jane, and she said yes to his proposal and they married in 1960. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.

Norman's and Jane's marriage was a true testament of their love, commitment and devotion over many decades, as they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December of last year. When Jane passed away in March of this year, Norman was devastated and wanted so desperately to be with her again. God answered his prayers. They are reunited in Heaven for their 61st wedding anniversary.

Their respect and admiration for each other created a stable and loving home in which to raise a family. They had two daughters before moving to Austin, Texas in 1972. In the early years, Norman served as an Officer in the Army as first Lieutenant in the Army Combat forces; field artillery division stationed at Ft. Hood. Upon completion of his duties, he joined the corporate world and rose to success as a Division Claims Manager for Employers Insurance of Texas. He later took up a second career working for The James Street Group.

At every opportunity, Norman was traveling or planning the next trip. He loved nothing more than spending time visiting wonderful destinations around the globe with Jane. Cruising was their favorite, with 19 cruises in the history books. Their last cruise was a trip to Hawaii where they renewed their wedding vows for their 50th anniversary. His advice to his family has always been to travel soon and often.

When he wasn't on the high seas, he was enjoying time with family and friends.

Norman has four granddaughters, two grandsons, two grandsons-in-law, and a great-granddaughter, with another great-granddaughter on the way. He could always make them laugh with his fun, dad-joke sense of humor and love of puns. Every day he walked through the door with a smile on his face, ready with his wonderful laugh and a big bear hug. If anyone ever needed a hand, there was nothing he couldn't do.

Norman enjoyed boating and wood working. He could repair, construct, or create anything with ease. He was fascinated with science fiction, all things space related, mysteries, and knew more trivia than the whole family combined. He could not be defeated in Trivial Pursuit. At Christmastime, he loved making popcorn balls, taffy, gingerbread cookies and being together with family.

Norman is preceded in death by his wife, Jane, his parents, Lucille and Hugh Bookout, and his brother and sister-in-law Don and Evelyn Bookout.

He will be deeply missed by surviving family members: daughters Dana Bookout Craig and Kristi Bookout Hall; sons-in-law Tom Craig and Ben Hall; granddaughters Courtney Craig, Kelsey Craig Spencer, Heather Wooley and Sarah Hall; grandsons Ryan and Austin Hall; grandsons-in-law, Blake Spencer and Chris Hailey; great-granddaughter Blakely Spencer.

There will be a private memorial in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society.

Thank you to family and friends who have enriched his life over the years. We welcome you to share stories of our dad and/or mom so their memories continue to live on. We take comfort knowing he is reunited with our mother and is at peace in Heaven. We have been blessed by him as a provider, protector, and loving leader of our family. We love and miss you, Daddy.
