Her obituary published 15 Dec 2021 by the Belleville IL News Democrat:

Melanie Harris
August 4, 1963 - December 10, 2021
O'Fallon, Illinois

Melanie Ann Harris (nee Ahrens) passed away on December 10, 2021 with her family by her side. Melanie was a successful recipient of a heart transplant on November 15, 2021.

Melanie was raised in Columbia, Ill. by her cherished mother Carol Reinheimer with the always helping hand of her Grandfather Joseph Rard.

Melanie married Don in 1986 and soon would begin her greatest achievement, that of being an amazing wife and mother. Melanie was always present at her children's events throughout the years. There wasn't a sporting event, art contest or theatre presentation that she was not somehow involved in. Melanie's many talents included a love for quilting. The incredible number of quilts and baby blankets she gave away were her greatest pleasure.

She spent the rest of her remaining free time volunteering and helping animals, specifically cats, through the TNR program in Belleville, Ill.

Melanie graduated from Gibault High School (Waterloo, Ill.), Belleville Area College and McKendree College (Lebanon, Ill). Melanie spent 35 plus years working in the computer programming field starting with COMSI at Scott AFB and finishing with ARSC at the USDA. She met some incredible friends along the way.

She is survived by her husband Don and their children Blake (Caitlin O'Toole) Harris, Madison (Lt. Greg) Wilkins, Emma (Brandon Hickey) Harris. Also left to mourn are her siblings Ann (Joseph) Michalski, Margaret Martino, Larry (Vielka) Ahrens, and Joseph Ahrens. She is also survived by her aunt Kathleen Lastarria (Breandon Isom), and her mother's husband Donald Reinheimer.

Melanie was preceded in death by her Mother Carol Reinheimer, Father Larry Ahrens, Sisters Susan and Beth Ahrens and her Grandfather Joseph Rard.

Visitation will take place on Friday December 17, 2021 from 9:00am to 11:00am at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington Street, O'Fallon, Ill. Funeral will begin at 11:00am, followed by burial at the O'Fallon City Cemetery.
