Mike was born June 19, 1948 in Marion, the son of Samuel F. and Betty (Wagner) Rizzo.
He lived in Marion his whole life and graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1967. He attended The Ohio State University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Education. He also obtained his Master of Education degree from Bowling Green State University. Mike devoted his life to education, teaching at Taft Middle School his entire career. He coached football and was instrumental in developing the wresting program within the Marion City School System and also taught golf at the Ohio State University Marion Campus. He inspired the lives of numerous students over his many years until his retirement in 2004.
Mike was drafted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge.
On July 22, 1973 Mike was united in marriage to his soulmate, Linda Kay Withrow. The couple made their home in Marion where they raised their two daughters.
Mike was a sports enthusiast. He was an avid bowler and a regular golfer at Whetstone Golf Course. He was A-flight Club Champion in 1981 and got a hole-in-one on hole number 12 on July 17th, 1994. For seven years, he managed the pool at Whetstone. He was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan and cheered hard for the Cincinnati Reds.
He will be fondly remembered by many friends for his infamous joke telling and his skills in the kitchen, especially his flair for Italian cooking.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 48 years, Linda Kay Rizzo; daughters: Michala Renee (PJ) Titus and Emily Kay (Paul) Leiter; grandchildren: Cooper and Chloe Titus; siblings: Richard Rizzo and Linda (Phil) Crowley; mother-in-law Mary Ellen Withrow; sisters-in-law Leslie (Kevin) Legge, Norma and Rebecca Withrow. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kristina Green{20284455} and father-in-law, Norman Withrow.
