James V. Markley, 84, of Weston passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. He was born on September 15, 1937 in Copley, WV, son of the late George F. Markley and Opal Sholes Markley. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen Sue Shaver Markley, his brother Don Markley and his sister Norma Jean Markley Peters.

Jim retired from Dominion Energy after almost 30 years of service. He has been a member of Broad Street UMC for over 55 years. A member of the Weston Volunteer Fire Department for 57 years, he and his wife Helen were instrumental in forming what is now the Weston-Lewis Co. Emergency Ambulance Service in the mid-1970s. Jim also co-founded Boy Scout Troop 77 in the 1960s.
Other memberships include the Weston Moose Lodge, the Lewis County Shrine club and the Nemesis Temple. Jim was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve after 6 years of service.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman Family Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Brian Plum officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV.
