Paul Warren Rose, Sr., 77, of Summersville, sleeping peacefully and surrounded by his family, entered into Heaven on Friday, December 10, 2021 after a year-long battle with cancer. Paul was born on October 11, 1944 in Bays and was the son of the late Warren Earl and Mae Marie (Campbell) Rose. Shortly after attending Nicholas County High School, he was drafted into the US Army in November 1965. Upon completion of his training, he was assigned to the 7th Army, Company A, 2nd Battalion, 51st Infantry. He served in Germany as an Indirect Fire Crewman, where he earned the Expert Rifleman Honor and the National Defense Service Medal. In October of 1967, he transferred to the US Army Reserves, and was honorably discharged in November 1971. As a devoted patriot, Paul truly loved his country and was extremely proud of the men and women who served it.

After his military service, Paul began a career spanning over 50 years in the mining industry. He worked for several mining companies throughout southern West Virginia, and gained a reputation as an expert surface mine drill operator. During his life, he enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, and wood working. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his treasured grandchildren. Paul was also a devoted member of New Beginnings Worship Center in Summersville and loved worshipping with his church family.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Jo Ann (Nutter) Rose. Survivors include his beloved wife, Tish (Drennen) Rose and seven children: John Danny Simpson of Charleston, Maudee Jo Montgomery and husband Terry of Grassy Meadows, Joseph Wilson Simpson and wife Angelia of Sutton, Paul Warren Rose, Jr. and wife Susan of Summersville, Philip Lee Wilson and wife Tammie of Mt. Nebo, Stacey Lynn Jackson and husband Chad of Summersville, Jamie Wilson and wife Katie of Manchester, NJ. In addition, "Paw Paw" Paul leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who truly adored him.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday December 16th at New Beginnings Worship Center, 307 Broad Street, in Summersville with Pastor Stacy Dingess officiating . Family and friends can call at the church from noon until service time on Thursday. Burial with military honor will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.
