Mr. James R.(Bob) "Pop" Aungerer, 86 of Jefferson City, went hone to dance with Jesus, on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at the Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Bob was born on August 17, 1921, in Fulton, Missouri, the son of George McKinley and Ethel Nellie(Little) Aungerer.

Mr Aungerer lived in Fulton, Missouri until 1977, when he moved to Jefferson City to be with his new bride, Ruth K. (Surface) Aungerer. Over 40 of Bob and Ruth's friends and family members celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with them on Saturday, November 24, 2007, at the Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Bob was known, loved and will be missed by his many friends at Mel's Country Cafe, Wal-Mart, Exchange National(Hawthorne)Bank, the American Legion Post 5 and especially by his special nurse, Merrie. Bob proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, from August 5, 1942 to February 13, 1946, and was entitled to wear and Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, and one Over Seas Bar. He was also awarded a Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Star.

After his retirement from Kaiser's Refractories in Mexico, Missouri and as a laborer at Ameren UE's Nuclear Plant in Reform, Missoouri, Bob and his wife, Ruth, cared for scores of children at their in-home daycare center in the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. Bob attended Capital City Christian Church and was involved in its Young at Heart Ministery. He was a Golden Eagle member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693 and a member of the American Legion Post 5 in Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: one son, James R. Aungerer, Jr. of Naples, Fl; three step-daughters: Brenda(Lowery) Branigan and her husband Andy of Jefferson City, Mo; Joyce(Walker) McDonald and her husband Tony of Springfield, Mo; Sandi(Walker) Miller and her husband Rick of Jefferson City, Mo, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Buddy Aungerer, and their parents, George and Ethel Aungerer.

Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00p.m. Friday, December 21, 2007, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev, Scott Cooper officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
