Professional Gymnast, Olympic Gold Medalist. He was born one of seven children as Per Daniel Bertilsson in Drängsered, Sweden, to Gustaf Adolf Bertilsson (1856-1894), and his wife Katrina Charlotta Kristiansdotter Bertilsson (1856-1927), on September 3, 1891. He grew up in Göteborg, Sweden, then moved to Stockholm, Sweden, where he trained to be a gymnastics coach. He was a professional gymnast who was a member of the club Göteborgs GS (or Göteborgs Gymnastiksällskap), of Göteborgs, Sweden. He would eventually go onto represent his home country of Sweden at the 1912 Summer Olympics that were held in Stockholm, Sweden. Together with his team members including Carl Ehrenfried Carlberg, Nils Granfelt, Curt Hartzell, Oswald Holmberg, Anders Hylander, Axel Janse, Boo Kullberg, Sven Landberg, Per Nilsson, Benkt Norelius, Axel Norling, Daniel Norling, Sven Rosén, Nils Silfverskiöld, Carl Silfverstrand, John Sörenson, Yngve Stiernspetz, Karl-Erik Svensson, Karl-Johan Svensson, Knut Torell, Edvard Wennerholm, Claës-Axel Wersäll, and David Wiman, he was part of the Swedish men's gymnastics team which won an Olympic Gold Medal in the Team All-Around Competition Artistic Gymnastics Swedish System Men's Event. His final team standing score result was ranking 1 with 937.46 points. He then moved to Havana, Cuba, for five years. He joined the infantry and became a Lieutenant in the Älvsborg Regiment's Reserve in 1918. He was also a Lieutenant in 1921, and then a Captain in 1934. In 1927, he purchased an old summer house in Delsjökärr, Sweden, and decided to live the life of a farmer but then he named the place Bertilsson's Cottage, and opened it up for excursions and other events to tourists. He continued to represent club Göteborgs GS (or Göteborgs Gymnastiksällskap), of Göteborgs, Sweden, and be active in sports events, in the infantry, and farming and tourism, until his death. He was awarded the distinguished City of Göteborg's Medal of Merit in 1968. He was married to Astrid Maria Victoria Engström Bertilsson (1895-1972), with whom he had three children, Christian Bertil Bertilsson (1918-1994), Lars Gustaf Bertil Bertilsson (1922-1995), and Ulla Margareta Bertilsson (1923-1998). He passed away in Stockholm, Sweden, on September 18, 1972, at the age of 79, and he was buried in Drängsereds kyrkogård in Drängsered, Sweden, where several other famous Swedish personalities are also laid to rest. His brother was Carl Adolf Hjalmar Bertilsson (1889-1968), who was a professional gymnast who won an Olympic Gold Medal at the 1912 Summer Olympics that were held in Stockholm, Sweden, in the Team All-Around Competition Artistic Gymnastics Men's Event.
