Catherine Mary (Weitzel) Murphy, 91 of Prospect St. in Northampton peacefully entered into eternal rest December 11, 2021 at home surrounded by her beloved family. Born in Hartford CT, April 1, 1930 she was the daughter of the late K. Irving and Emma (Gedney) Weitzel. She graduated in 1948 from John Fitch High School in Windsor CT and from the Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Catherine worked as a maternity nurse at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for over 35 years. She was a member and past treasurer of the Cooley Dickinson Alumni Association, Adjutant member of the DAV Auxiliary #92, a member of the Northampton Grange and the National Chapter. She was a Eucharistic Minister at the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Northampton.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband Edward J. Murphy Sr, both her parents and infant brother K. Irving Weitzel Jr. Catherine is loved and fondly remembered by her family, daughters Diane Murphy and Karen Murphy both of Northampton, Cheryl Veasey of Easthampton and grandson Dale of Albany NY, Catherine Brunelle (Joseph) and grandsons Andrew and Matthew of Granby, Elizabeth Widner (Joseph) of Hatfield and grandson Christian. Catherine's sons Edward Murphy Jr. (Heather) and grandchildren Abigail and Cooper of W. Springfield, Timothy Murphy (Cathleen) and grandchildren Timothy Jr., Mary, Daniel and Colleen of Alexandria VA and her daughter Carolyn Fuqua (Daniel) and granddaughter Alana of Hatfield. Catherine touched and remains in the hearts of many beloved nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends.
