The world lost a beloved mother, Marjorie A. Sullivan, on December 10, 2021, at the age of 94, in Naples, FL. Marjorie was a 27-year resident of Naples. Marjorie was born on July 22, 1927 and raised in Bronx, NY by her loving parents, Joseph and May McKeon. Marjorie had an older sister, May Rita McFarland, who predeceased her.
Marjorie attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine where she excelled as both a student and an athlete. She met her husband Thomas of 66 years there, and was taken aback at a high school dance when he had the nerve to cut in on the final dance. She would say later "Nobody did that back then". Their romance would begin that night and last until his passing 8 years ago.
Marjorie was a loving mother of 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Called Mimi by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she could make everything better with her warm hugs. Marjorie broke glass ceilings of her day by becoming a National Rated Women's Basketball Official, and the first spouse of a Chevrolet dealer to be named a co-dealer. Tom and Marge operated Tom Sullivan Chevrolet in Monroe beginning in 1966 until their retirement.
Marjorie loved to play golf and was a long-time member of The Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo Park, NY, as well as the Wyndemere Club in Naples, FL. She was always active in her Catholic Church communities, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Ann's Parish in Naples, FL.
Marjorie is survived by her five children, Kathleen Ricker of Colorado Springs, CO; Gail Sobolewski (Thomas) of Naples, FL; Diane Dempsey (Martin) of Wake Forest, NC; Margaret Sullivan of Falls Church, VA; and William Sullivan (Patricia) of Walden, NY.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 4-6 p.m. at Smith, Seaman, and Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 515 Route 32, Highland Mills, NY 10930. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at St. Anastasia Church, Harriman, NY. Middletown, NY 10941, followed by interment at St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman, NY.
Face masks will be required for all attendees regardless of vaccination status.
