Charles Shaw March 28, 1935 - December 13, 2021
Charles Shaw, 86, of Marion passed away at 12:38 a.m., Monday, December 13, 2021 at Franklin County Hospital in Benton. Charles was born on March 28, 1935 in Marion to Carl and Roberta (Laturno) Shaw. He married the love of his life, Doris McKnight on March 13, 1954 in Johnston City. Together they shared almost 67 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 10, 2021. Charles was a 1953 graduate of Johnston City High School. After graduating he attend ROTC and later went on to attend Southern Illinois University-Carbondale where he earned his Bachelor and Masters in Music Education. He retired from Johnston City School district having been a music teacher. Charles was the Orchestra director at First Baptist Church in Marion for many years and was also a member of Pittsburg Free Will Baptist Church. Music was a huge part of Charles' life, especially gospel music. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending SI Miners baseball games and also attending SIU-C basketball games. Charles is survived by his two daughters, Karla Grant of Marion and Vicki (Steve) Giacomelli of Johnston City; three grandchildren, Marybeth Davie of Johnston City, Rachel (Alex) Terrill of Energy and Philip (Timm Gann) Giacomelli of Washington, MO; four great-grandchildren, Gracie West, Kylie Davie, Charlie Lipe and Wilson Giacomelli; former son-in-law, Ronald Grant; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Donald) Avery; brother-in-law, Robert McKnight. He is also survived by numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Shaw; parents, Carl & Roberta Shaw; sister, Carline Benton. In honor of his request he was cremated and there will be a celebration of life at a later date.
