James R. Shelton, 85, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He was born on December 1, 1936 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, the son of the late Dudley and Beulah (Saylor) Shelton. On September 11, 1954 he married Billie Jean (Land) Shelton, who survives. James served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He was a retired contractor for the old Hawkins Building & Supply in Crab Orchard, Kentucky; also he was the owner of Shelton Builders in Scott County, Indiana. James and his wife attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, Indiana. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa J. "Missy" Marion; and a brother, Clarence Shelton. Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Billie Jean (Land) Shelton; two sons, Mike Shelton of Charlestown, Indiana and Jimmy (Beth) Shelton of Scottsburg, Indiana; three daughters, Judy (Jim) Donohue of Scottsburg, Indiana, Susie Shelton of Destin, Florida, and Lisa (Gaylon) Calahan of Winchester, Tennessee; brother, Billy Shelton of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Tony Shelton & Jonathan Shelton officiating. Visitation: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm Sunday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Emmanuel Baptist Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana.
