Dennis King Barton was born on October 10, 1935 in Alamosa, Colorado to Cecil Leon Barton and Eva Cleone King.

Dennis grew up with his younger brother Lewis in Antonito, Colorado. He graduated from Antonito High School in 1953 and then enlisted into the United States Navy. He served for 3 1/2 years in the Korean War. After the Navy, he went to college at the University of New Mexico. There he earned an electrical engineering degree. He worked for many years at E G &G at the Nevada Test site in Las Vegas, Nevada. During this time, he helped developed a robotic arm used by NASA. After EG&G, he went to work for Big Town Plumbing and eventually became the owner of the company. After retiring he moved to Parowan, Utah and realized his dream of owning a horse ranch. Windsong Ranch was the home to his 32 horses.

Dennis married his lovely wife, LaVaughn Collins on August 23, 1956 in Seattle, Washington. They met while both serving in the United States Navy. They settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico while he attended college. They later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where they lived with their family of four children for 35 years. They moved to Parowan in 1997 where they enjoyed retirement, friends and many family gatherings.

Dennis had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He held many positions in the church such as Bishop of the 29th ward and 1st counselor in the stake presidency of the Red Rock Stake in Las Vegas. His favorite calling was being a Gospel Doctrine teacher for over 20 years. He loved the youth of the church and saw great potential in them.

He lived his life to the fullest! He was known for his work ethic, chili, jerky, gardening, parties, making beautiful gun stocks and his love for his dogs.

He passed away in his home in Parowan, Utah with his family around him on December 8, 2021.

Dennis is survived by his wife, LaVaughn, daughters Joni Bowen, Jamie (Ken) McNulty and sons Jerome (Janna) Barton and Jim (Michelene) Barton and his brother Lewis (Suzy) Barton. He had 46 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law-David Bowen, daughter-in-law Holly Barton and two grandchildren-Benjamin Barton and Susan Bowen.

Funeral services will be held on December 18, 2021 at the Parowan 2nd ward building at 11:00. A viewing will be held the same day at 9:30. Interment will be held at the Parowan Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. www.sumortuary.com
