William J. Mateer Jr., age 87, of Cambridge, formerly of Forest Lake, passed away peacefully at Cambridge Medical Center on November 29, 2021. William was born March 10, 1934 to William Sr and Mildred Mateer in St. Paul, MN. He attended and graduated from Humboldt High School. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the US Army and was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska as a Combat Engineer. He was honorably discharged in 1956. After completing his military service, William started working for the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT). He retired as a Sr Highway Tech after 30+ years. He designed many projects in the Twin Cities area, including the Highbridge Park and the Stillwater/ St Croix bridge as well as parts of Highway 52. William was preceded in death by his parents, wife Yvonne and daughter-in-law Cheryl Mateer.
