In loving memory of Everett L. Berry

On Friday, November 12, 2021, Everett passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. His cancer battle showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. His loved ones will continue his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. A special note of thanks to Sangre De Cristo Hospice for the care, compassion, and support they provided us.

Everett was born in Canon City on January 6, 1952, to Nelson and Mae (Erps) Berry. He grew up on the family ranch in Hillside, Colorado in the beautiful Wet Mountain Valley area.

Everett retired from the Canon City Fire Department in 2007 as a firefighter, rank of lieutenant. Everett had a fierce love and support of his fire department family, Local 1002 Union, and brotherhood while also serving his community. Everett continued his support as a member of the Canon City Fire Protection Board for over a decade. He was proud of their part in the new Fire Station 3 becoming a reality. He checked himself out of the hospital against doctor's orders to proudly attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fire Station 3.

Everett remained an active retired member of the International Association of Firefighters and was listed as a member at the time of his passing.

Everett was an active 4H member in Custer County growing up. His love for 4H continued in Fremont County over the years in the open garden division. He participated in the County Fair this summer and competed in the round-robin showmanship, partnered up with his granddaughter . He placed 7th in showmanship winning a green ribbon with a big smile on his face.

Over the years you could find Everett hunting and fishing and playing cribbage with his good friend . Everett was fond of sharing their hunting and fishing stories.

After retirement, Everett and Greg partnered up in running their cattle and hay business together. Everett enjoyed the years of working with Greg, haying, building fences, raising cattle, and doing what ranchers do. It's the work he loved and treasured.

Everett and his wife built a beautiful life together working on improvements to their farmhouse and acreage, gardening, raising chickens, Boer goats, and chasing after their Boston terriers in Lincoln Park.

Everett was blessed with raising his children. He was also equally blessed with eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to love. He was a proud papa.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Mae (Erps) Berry; and siblings, William Berry, Fred Berry, Edna Killian, and Roy Berry.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Grandview Christian Church in Canon City, Colorado. Canon City Fire District Chaplain, Scott Hall will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, also in Canon City. Please join the family for a potluck luncheon afterward at Grandview Church event hall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canon City Fire District Volunteer Fire Fighters at 1475 N. 15th St. Canon City, Colorado 81212.
