The second child of Emery Calvin and Afton Hirst (Bickmore) Clayson, Arthur was born 6 May 1935, in Montello, NV. While attending the University of Nevada, he met the love of his life, Clydie Jane Seckinger. They were married on 24 Mar 1956 in George, UT.
Fresh out of college with a degree in mechanical engineering, arthur arrived in the Indian Wells Valley in June 1957, when he began his career at the Naval Ordnance Test Station. Described as the Navy's leading expert on aircraft guns, he received the NWC Technical Director's Award and the Meritorious Civilian Service Award during his 53 years of continuous service tot eh warfighter at NAWS, China Lake, CA.
Arthur was a lifelong, dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During 1959-1960, along with other members, he helped build the chapel at 501 North Norma St., working many evenings and most Saturdays. Over the years he served in many callings, including bishop's counselor, high counselor, bishop and temple workers, and travels many miles in church service. He enjoyed reading gospel works and having after-dinner gospel discussions with family.
He was a builder and loved all things mechanical. He was a small-aircraft pilot, model railroader and the family auto mechanic. He improved the family's property by building and maintaining an addition to the house, outbuildings for livestock, sheds, plants, fences and windmill and irrigation systems. His ongoing retirement project was building a rid-on, small scale train that wound around the property. He taught his children to work on many of these projects.
Arthur was preceded in death by his wife Clyde, great-grandson Gregory Clayson and sister and brother-in-law Anna Lee and Dale Egbert.
He is survived by his children, Calvin (Colleen), Cathleen (Bryan) Smith, Alan (Beth), Jane Clayson, Rosalie (Rick) Crites, Jesse (Karen), Aaron (Amy), and Peter (Beate) Clayson, 22 grandchildren, brother Dennis (Linda), sister Susan ( Rowland) Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.
